About No. 6

The brief for this project was unique: to create a kitchen that felt like anything but a kitchen. Nestled within an old stable building defined by massive, historic limestone pillars, the architectural scale of the room demanded an layout that was entirely respectful of its past.

Rather than overcrowding the space with modern appliances, we meticulously planned the main room around a large table-style island, inspired by the grand cooks' tables of traditional country houses. This central oak table forms an unhurried, simple preparation area paired with a classic Aga, allowing the character of the original masonry to take center stage.

To keep the main environment beautifully uncomplicated and free from daily clutter, we designed an accompanying ante-kitchen. This separate, hardworking back-of-house area houses the family's everyday needs—including additional ovens, deep larder storage, and open pantry shelving. Positioning the main sink area under the window connects the prep space directly to the beautiful surrounding gardens, ensuring a sense of quiet retreat and effortless continuity throughout the entire build.
