We design, manufacture, install and hand finish bespoke cabinetry that is elegant, practical and truly made to last, creating rooms that feel like they have always belonged in your home.

Our Philosophy

Listening

Great design is built on listening.

We believe great relationships are built on listening—it's simple but crucial. At Thomas Ford & Sons, we value hearing your vision for your home, not just the individual rooms,as it allows us to design more thoughtfully. We focus on the bigger picture of your project to achieve the perfect balance of function, beauty, and comfort, while reflecting your family and day to day household.

  • Ensuring every space that we design serves its practical purpose first and foremost

  • Every time you arrive in your space, we want you to think, “I am home”.

  • Creating spaces that feel inherently welcoming, homely, and distinctly yours

Space

Space doesn't have to be filled.

At Thomas Ford & Sons, we understand that while life may be busy, your living spaces don't have to be. We consider space as integral to the room and not just an area to be filled. Truly effective design is all about utilising your space thoughtfully, as much as it's about the beautiful furniture we bring in. Our goal is to design kitchens and other living areas that use space to achieve the right scale, convey a sense of balance and appear uncomplicated.

Scale

Heights, widths and depths - we make sure to design for the true scale of your rooms.

Balance

Balance should be both seen and felt, an aesthetic guide and a functional reality.

Simplicity

Amongst the detail and intricacy of our furniture, we make it feel uncomplicated.

People

An honest approach is our authentic voice.

At Thomas Ford & Sons, our diverse and flourishing team is truly at the heart of our design philosophy. While we are experts in our craft today, our collective journey has been anything but straight. We pride ourselves on the fact that our design, manufacturing and installations team is not solely from the industry, and brings a wealth of experience from other disciplines, prior careers and hands-on life experience. We believe our wide range of backgrounds and skills has shaped and defined our core design principles: one of hard work, genuine dedication, deep understanding, and a relentless drive to get better.

Our Story

2009

Founding

Thomas Ford & Sons was founded by designer Ian Ford in 2009, a small company specialising in kitchens and other rooms operating from a studio in Ripley, Surrey - a studio we still call home today! From the beginning, the installation of our furniture was handled by Andrew Simkin and Ryan Glover, two highly skilled carpenters and childhood friends who would become central figures in the Thomas Ford & Sons story.

2011

Tom joins the team

In 2011 Tom Ford, son of Ian joined the Thomas Ford & Sons design team, establishing the family thread that flows through the business to this day. Working alongside Ian, Tom helped to form and develop the aesthetic that makes our work stand out today, bringing his love of architecture, design, and minimalism that now defines Thomas Ford & Sons design.

2019

Management Restructure

As the years go by and the business continues to grow and flourish, in January 2019 Ian rewards Andrew, Ryan and Tom with directorships for their dedication and importance to the reputation of Thomas Ford & Sons. It was a restructuring that would pave the way for us to end outsourcing our furniture from a long-term supplier and pursue our own manufacturing journey.

2019

Opening our TF&S Factory

As Ian and Tom continue to manage design and sales from the Ripley studio, Andrew and Ryan return to their roots to open the Thomas Ford & Sons Factory and workshop in Rochdale, Oldham. This marks a lovely chapter in the TF&S story, as Andrew and Ryan, who have been our installation team from the very start, now take on the role of manufacturing and producing our furniture for now and into the future.

2025

Our ever-growing team

Thomas Ford & Sons is proud to have reached a milestone of over 20 team members in 2025. We have grown from a small operation to a much larger business, and we wouldn't be anywhere without our blossoming and dedicated team to make sure we continue what we love doing.

2026

Today

From our studio in Ripley and our factory in Rochdale, we continue to do what we love: designing, manufacturing, and installing beautiful furniture for your home. We're delighted to share that we have renewed our studio lease, securing our presence there for another ten years. This year also marks the exciting launch of our own paint range exclusive to Thomas Ford & Sons, a range of colours for your furniture that truly reflects the story of our company.

Our Team

Ian Ford, aka the Cheese. Ian has been in this industry for over 35 years and teaches us all every day. Designing, materials, fitting and manufacturing, he has a handle on it all and we are very thankful for having Ian Ford at the helm.

Tom Ford
Design Director

Tom is our director and designer and is one of a kind. His creativity knows no bounds. Regularly being called by clients for full architectural advice, let alone kitchen design. A lover of architecture and functional design. Our minimalist to the core! We are so proud of what Tom creates within Thomas Ford & Sons. He inspires us every day.

Ryan Glover
Factory Director

Ryan and Andrew’s shared journey began in their school days, leading them to work together at a local, high-quality cabinet making company. This experience sparked their dream of combining their skills and executing their own design ideas. Ten years later, this goal became a reality when they partnered with Ian Ford. After another ten years, they had achieved their original objective: creating their own product. Ryan is now at the forefront of product design at TF&S, constantly refining and perfecting the furniture fitted in your homes. Known for his calm and collected demeanor, Ryan is the team's steadying influence, ensuring the product is the best it can possibly be.

Andrew Simkin
Factory Director

Andrew, along with his business partner Ryan have been with TF&S from the outset. Starting as our expert fitting team and spending a decade doing so, they meanwhile planned and honed in on the perfect system for a workshop. They created the Thomas Ford & Sons Factory geared towards producing the next phase of TF&S furniture. Known for working meticulously, a self-confessed perfectionist liking things "just so”, he strives for order and a methodical way of working. Andy keeps the workshop in perfect order creating a product that we all love to work with.
